Submission Guidelines
Please familiarize yourself with our magazine before submitting. We are interested in publishing the work of emerging and established artists, alike. We are only looking for unpublished work or translations of pieces that are not already available in the translated language. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but we do ask that you withdraw your piece promptly via email if it’s accepted elsewhere. We ask that you refrain from sending more than one submission per genre and wait until you receive a response before submitting again. At this time, we are unable to compensate contributors, but we will widely spread your work on social media & continue to root for you evermore. We ask that previous contributors not submit work again for one year, following the date of their featured issue’s publication.
Email your submissions to homologylit@gmail.com and title your document as the title of the piece or simply as the genre you’re submitting to (for example “Poetry Submission”). Please do not include your name or any identifying information in your document or the document’s title, as our readers and editors review submissions blind. If there is identifying information in your document or the document’s title, take note that you might not receive a response.
Attach your written work as .doc or .docx and, in the body of the email, please include a cover letter, artist bio, website/social media links, and your proper pronouns and identifiers. We only publish work by BIPOC, those in the LGBTQIA+ community, and neurodivergent and disabled folks.
We ask that if you don’t identify with at least one of these communities, do not submit your work.
With that being said, please share how you identify in your cover letter, in the body of the email, so we can ensure that you are someone who lines up with our magazine.
ART
We’re looking for art to stand alone, pair with our writing, and/or use as issue headers. Send us your paintings, drawings, photographs, illustrations, and more. Send no more than five at a time. Please attach each piece as a .JPEG file. We prefer high-res images (300 dpi/ppi or higher & at least 1800-pixel).
POETRY
Send 1-6 poems at a time. Submit multiple poems in a single document, using page breaks and titles, so we know where each poem begins and ends. The total number of pages shouldn’t exceed 10 pages.
FICTION
We accept micro-fiction and flash fiction. We don’t have a minimum word count, but we (loosely) max out at 1,000 words. Submit up to three pieces at a time. For prose pieces, we prefer single-spaced and left-aligned, but feel free to get creative with your structure. We’ll work with you.
CREATIVE NONFICTION
We love personal essays and, like our fiction specifications, don’t have a minimum word count. Keep them under 3,000(ish) words, though. For prose pieces, we prefer single-spaced and left-aligned, but feel free to get creative with your structure. We’ll work with you.
